Research On The Repair Project Of Jingling Shengde-shengong Stele Pavilion And With Discussion On The Inheritance And Development Of The Dabei Tower In Qing Dynasty

The Shengde-shengong stele pavilion of Jing Mausoleum in Eastern QingTombs belongs to Patriarch Kangxi Huang Mausoleum Pavilion. Its wooden part hasbeen destroyed completely due to a thunderbolt in1952, with piers remaining. Thebasic image could be found from historical documents and photographs, but it’sdifficult to accurately trace the specific dimension and practice.The opportunity of the research comes from the Shengde-shengong stele pavilionof Jing Mausoleum’s renovation. In order to find the solution of repair based on thesame architecture from the traditional evolution, the paper explains the stele combpavilion’s origin and heritage, access to relevant historical documents and drawings,contrast analysis of four other stele pavilions, and then, describes in details of allaspects of the project to determine the conservation and restoration.The Shengong-shengde or Shengde-shengong stele Pavilion is also known asDabei Tower, which is one of the traditional pavilion architecture. Its uniquearchitectural character represents the imperial mausoleum of the Ming and Qingdynasties, with a high value of architectural art and craft. Compared with MingDynasty, the shape and structure of the Dabei Tower in Qing Dynasty is morematural and perfect.The paper traces the evolution of the stele pavilion, explains the origin of theDabei Tower and its heritage and development in Qing Dynasty, laying the foundationof historical and cultural restoration design. Meanwhile, it has reviewed and targetedresearch from the construction of both single and group as well as the five DabeiTower in Qing Dynasty,.Including four Dabei Tower from east and west mausoleum, the School ofArchitecture of Tianjin University has accumulated a wealth of mapping drawingsfrom the Qing Dynasty tomb; I also participated in some of mapping drawingsresearch, gaining knowledge of Qing Dynasty architecture experience. In this paper, itmakes comprehensive study in many ways, such as the plane, elevation, section,dougong, entablature and decorative painting etc. Especially the results ofcomparative analysis provide us the important reference for the repair design.This paper records and explains the recovery repair design itself, compiles andanalyzes a variety of issues in the design process, including the use of research data and address specific issues. In this way, I could provide significant data for the futurestudy in the same field.
