Research On The Stele Pavilions In Chinese Ancient Imperial Mausoleums

The object of this article is stele pavilion in Chinese ancient imperial mausoleum.Firstly, the article combings the emergence and development of stele and stelepavilion in imperial mausoleum, and describes the source of stele pavilion in imperialmausoleum. Which reveals the stele in imperial mausoleum emerge from the stele inthe front of tomb in Han dynasty. Since the Tang and Song dynasties, the stelepavilion flourished in temple, minister tomb and etiquette building. Further, the articleexplains why the stele pavilion first appeared in the imperial mausoleum of minorityregime. And then, the article summarizes the layout mode and architectural features inthe imperial mausoleum of Liao, Western xia and Jin dynasties, which points out that itdoes not form a strict system, and reflects the diversity of stele pavilion in imperialmausoleum at its start-up phase.Secondly, the article combings that the stele pavilion system in ancient Chineseimperial mausoleum matures to be stereotyped in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Fromthe Ming dynasty, stele pavilion system in imperial mausoleum formed through threemajor phases. It was initially laid in Hongwu period, and was stereotyped in Yongleand Jiajing periods. Then the article discusses Jingtai Mausoleum and Si Mausoleumwhich have special settings of stele pavilions, and describes the settings of stelepavilions in king’s mausoleum of Ming dynasty. On the basis of merit stele pavilionsystem and Minglou system in the imperial mausoleum of Ming dynasty, the imperialmausoleum of Qing dynasty develops tomb passage stele pavilion system. Stelepavilion is applied in not only emperor’s mausoleum but also mausoleum of king,queen and, princess.At last, the article analyses the shape characteristics of stele pavilion building inMing and Qing dynasties, and classifies and compares them according to the scalestructure and architectural pavilion. The article combings the process of change ofshape characteristics of stele pavilion from Ming dynasty to Qing dynasty, and pointsout that the shape characteristics of stele pavilion go toward to be hierarchical andstylized.The evolution of the stele pavilion in Chinese ancient imperial mausoleum reflects its important political significance. It also reflects that the space layout ofChinese ancient imperial mausoleum improves gradually, and reflects the Chineseancient architecture technology develops to be highly stereotyped, and reflects themulti-ethnic integration process in Chinese history.
