The Reaserch Of Yao Brocade Craft In Hunan

As one of the minorities living in Hunan, Yao Nationality has a long history and profound culture. Yao brocade technique spreading in Yao Area in the southwest of Hunan is the relic of “warp-patterned brocade” that still retains the warp jacquard craft now. It reflects the historical course of China’s brocade technique to some extent, and possesses a relatively high craft specimen value. Meanwhile, under the influence of this unique craft and Yao culture, Yao brocade has formed its intrinsic artistic charm and it is an indispensable part of minority brocade in Hunan. At present, Yao brocade of Hunan is extensively applied to daily necessities such as local quilt cover, flower belt, straps, bib, basket cover and headscarf. BaBao quilt of Jianghua Yao Autonomous County is the main branch of Yao brocade in Hunan.By starting from multiple disciplinary perspectives including design science, art theory, anthropology and ethnology, and adopting literature research method, field investigation method and interview method as the main research methods, this paper gains a comprehensive and in-depth cognition about Yao brocade technique of Hunan. Based on previous researches, by conducting extensive literature searching and solid field investigation, this paper teases and studies the distribution area, daily necessity classification, cultural connotation, technology, and survival condition of Yao brocade technique in Yao Area in the south of Hunan. Moreover, by focusing on the process features and artistic characteristics, it analyzes the technological process of Yao brocade and its warp jacquard characteristics in detail. Thus the rarity of Yao brocade technique is displayed. Meanwhile, a discussion is made on the unique artistic characteristics of patterns and decorations presented by Yao brocade, and the combination of Yao brocade technique and its culture is expressed. It tries to reflect the historical and cultural value, craft value and artistic value contained by Yao brocade. Finally, the passive inheritance situations of Yao brocade technique in Hunan are illustrated, and protection strategies suitable for the current society are explored, so as to provide new theoretical data of exploration and development paths for the study on Yao brocade technique of Hunan.
