In the modern era of mechanical production,traditional handicrafts such as Tujia brocade craftsmanship have been greatly impacted.After a brief recovery in the 1980 s,the Tujia brocade quickly reappeared a crisis of inheritance.As the original environment of the Tujia brocades gradually disappeared,the space for the inheritance of the brocade crafts also shrank drastically.Until the state started the protection of intangible cultural heritage,the Tujia brocades took advantage of this opportunity to regain their vitality.However,only a handful of Tujia brocade craftsmen were identified as different levels of inheritors,and most of them continued to brocade in obscurity.However,as the inheritor of the Tujia brocade,the brocade entertainers have rarely seen them in many studies.At the junction of Youyang county and Longshan County lies in the "Mother River" of the Tujia minority,which is also the place where many people are born and grew up.Decades ago,the sound of machines ceaselessly,but now it is gradually disappearing with the relocation of Craftsman.This article,based on the field survey in Youyang and Longshan County for nearly three months,explores the story of their brocade skills through the visual angle of the brocade artists,and analyzes how the artists inherit the brocade skills in different living conditions.By participating in observation,the real life and survival state of brocade artists are explored.Through in-depth interviews,we can understand the life course of brocade artists and their attitudes and views on the inheritance of Tujia brocade skills.This article is divided into four chapters.In the introduction,the reasons for the topic selection,the research background and the significance of this research are mainly described,and the overview of field points is introduced.The first chapter of the text describes the technical characteristics of Tujia brocade from three aspects of the tools,process flow and pattern of Tujia brocade.Through the development of the new pattern,it is found that the development speed of the Tujia brocade is accelerating.The second chapter mainly explains the characteristics and survival status of brocade artists.The author divides the brocade artists into two categories: representative inheritors and folk artists.The author expounds the existence of different types of brocade artists,and illustrates the characteristics of the brocade artists by typical cases.It is concluded that the contemporary brocade people will bring life emotion into the brocade works,and learn and integrate the weaving skills of many nationalities and regions to improve the overall characteristics of the Tujia brocade and weaving skills.The third chapter mainly discusses the inheritance mode of the brocade skill and the role of the artist.Through the integration of the field data,the inheritance mode of the Tujia brocade is divided into four ways of inheritance,such as family style,teacher and apprenticeship,college style and training class.Through the analysis,the brocade artist plays an important role in the inheritance of the brocade skills,which determines the vitality of the heritage of the Tujia brocade,the cycle of technological innovation and the loss of skills.The fourth chapter discusses the efforts made by the brocade artists in the plight of technical heritage.Under the influence of the three aspects of national policy,social public cognition and brocade artists themselves,the brocade artists choose and cooperate with other industries to protect and inherit the brocade skills.They spread the Tujia brocade out of the exhibition activities and competitions to make more people know Tujia brocade.Each piece of Tujia brocade is the album of the life history of the brocade artists,containing their emotions and insights.At present,the old brocade artists in the uniting River Basin are more than one of their own brocade artists to inherit their skills,so as to improve the current state of the imbalance of the age level of the brocade artists.The brocade arts of the younger generation began to notice the importance of exquisite brocade works,and tried to develop the Tujia brocade into a contemporary cultural and creative product.In today’s era,the living space of the brocade artists who stick to the traditional processes to weave the brocade of Tujia brocade is shrinking.The situation of the young brocade artists can not complete the whole brocade process has been existing and is increasing,so it is urgent to protect the brocade artists to learn and inherit the space.
