In daily life, supermarkets, shopping malls and chain stores have become popular shoppingareas. With the rapid development of the retail industry and the exaltation of residents’ consumptionlevel, quantity of commodity become increasingly huge, the demand of price labels also increasessharply. A lot of human resources are needed to maintain and manage labels, and paper labels areeasy to be error and lost, which will bring negative effects to enterprises. For another, in order tostimulate consumption, positive price strategy is in need to push for businesses, especially inholidays, the demand of activities to change price like promotions and discounts become surge.Therefore, to design a system to real-time update price labels has very positive significance.Electronic shelf label system is an electronic application system placed on the goods shelves,which can receive commodity price and other information through the wireless communication inreal time, and display on the electronic screen. It is successful to link labels to supermarket serverby wireless technology. When information of a product changes, after sending commands to thecorresponding label, the electronic screen of the label will be update with new information, whichachieve consistency between product information in computer database and label displayinformation.According to the research status and development trend of electronic shelf label system, thispaper makes comparison of advantages and disadvantages of various electronic display technology,then does deep analysis on principles and advantages of the electronic paper display technology,and designs an electronic shelf label system based on electronic paper display; it with MSP430microcontroller,2.4GHZ RF chips and electronic paper driver chip as the core, designs thehardware circuit for access point and electronic shelf label, which includes five parts, just controlunit, wireless transceiver unit, serial communication unit, electronic paper display drive unit andpower unit; as drive circuit design is completed, it parses control timing parameters of MCU andcontrol instruction command of driver chips in detail, then designs electronic paper driver program,and put forward methods to optimize display from pixel mode, refresh mode and some anotheraspects; by building the debug environment, it tests the system functions of display and wirelesscommunication, as well as performance on power consumption, response speed of screen, andwireless transmission rates.Upon proved, the system achieves functions of wireless transmission between access point andelectronic shelf label and display of label screen, and can successfully make information in thedatabase synchronize with label display information; from its performance, the system with low power consumption, high wireless transmission rate and low error rate, and the screen display looksperfect, which has some reference significance for design of electronic shelf label system, and isbeneficial to universal application and promotion of electronic paper display technology.
