Electronic shelf label (ESL) is an electronic display device, which is placed in goods shelves instead of the traditional paper label. ESL displays the latest information in order to accomplish the updating of the information, which is connected with the computer database through the wireless communication technology. The real-time of updated information, the reduction of labor intensity and the avoiding of errors are the important characteristics of ESL, and ESL has caused wide public concern at home and abroad.The hardware and software are designed by the low power chip computer and the2.4G low power radio frequency chip, which is based on the short-range wireless communication technology and the existing technology of ESL. The ESL is composed of the control unit, wireless transceiver unit, display unit, storage unit and the power. The ESL uses the single chip computer as the controller, with2.4G radio frequency chip, the storage chip (EEPROM) and LCD, which can transfer, store and display the information.The reliability of updated information and power consumption are designed in hardware and software. The reliability of updated information is designed, which is composed of the radio frequency circuit design, the design of packets format, the choice of data rate, the design of CC2500drive and signal prevent collision design. And the design of power consumption is accomplished, which is composed of the selection of the hardware, controller configuration, and the design of LCD working mode and ESL working mode.Experimental result, obtained from experimental plat, shows that the performance of the ESL is good, and the design meets the design requirement.
