Study On Audio Books In The Shallow Reading Age

With the development of the Internet, people’s way of reading is also undergoing tremendous changes, and shallow reading gradually becomes the main trend of reading in today’s society. Under the trend of intelligent mobile terminals, audio books appear in people’s daily lives, and become a useful complement to traditional reading. From the sixties and seventies of the twentieth century on, audio books have been not famous in the world. But now, audio books achieve a big opportunity relying on mobile terminals and network platform which successfully expand readership and market share and build a new reading style of listening. This reading style consists the main mode of shallow reading, which is characterized by fragmentation and entertainment, and has shown new features.The reason why audio books are able to get rid of a few decades with slow development is that shallow reading trend, rapid innovation in digital technology and commodity characteristics of popular culture play important roles in today’s society. In the shallow reading age, the popularity of audio books greatly reduce the threshold for all people, and read is no longer just a slogan, which develop a new, healthy, convenient, fashionable read style for the public by virtue of the ever-changing high-tech means. To a certain extent, audio books help improve the public quality and reading rate. However, in order to meet people’s demand for shallow reading, the development of audio books still has some problems unresolved. These problems may affect a generation of people’s reading habits, and even relate to the cultural heritage of the entire Chinese nation. Therefore, how audio books achieve a breakout success in the shallow reading trend is worth studying.In this paper, literature research, content analysis and other research methods are used to study audio books’s development which relys on mobile terminals in the shallow reading trend and analyze the development status and causes of audio books. This thesis trys to sum up the rationality of audio books’development from period features and realistic point of view. At the same time, we should have a correct understanding of the audio books’shortcomings in the current development process, and analyse the impact of audio books on the national cultural heritage, the audience reading thinking, the actual reading result and the traditional publishing market. At last, this thesis presents some development strategies of audio books in shallow reading age. We hope audio books can give full play to their strengths and try to overcome the negative effects, which truly help people at all times to learn the cultural nutrients and become an important accompanied reading form.
