RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. It is a no-contact automatic identification technology and it can via radio signal to identify and record relevant data.With the rapid development of RFID system and the increasing market demand, as a core part of the RFID system, RFID reader innovation and design becomes very critical. The design is based on AVR micro-controller, research and design the RFID reader. The main content of the paper is as follows:(1) Introduced the purpose and significance of RFID systems, development, research status and the trend of the market and technology development.(2) Introduced an overview of the concept and composition of RFID system, the working principle, key technology, system encoding formats, classification system and other contents.(3) Designed hardware system of RFID reader based on AVR micro-controller,according to the topic to design the function of each part of the reading circuit, to design reader hardware platform including the production of JTAG interface and communication interface.(4) Designed software system of RFID reader based on AVR micro-controller,through the AVR Studio and ICCAVR V6software development software system design,and through the JTAG interface to download the good write program to a good hardware platform.(5) Completed the design of reader’s hardware and software, then to test for the reader’s reading distance and reliability, and analyzed the test results, the test results show that the design of RFID reader can stable and efficient reading the information in the electronic label.
