Come From The Archives

Musuem archive is the "history" which mirrors the history of art and museum, providing academic resourse and new narrative inspiration to exhibitions—the most impotant fuction of art museum, offering the fundamental basis of museum history, purpose and conventions to employees, and by establishing the archievs open system to scholars and the public, educational fuction of art museum has been extensed to become a "comprehensive research center"After more than half a century of development, archive has been the indispensable part of the theory and practice work in western art museum. Alongwith the increasing number of art museums in China, the professional ability and social culture function also is growing, more and more art museums have already started to attach importance to the management and utilization methods of archives, and the study and display of archives became a new fashion, too. But in introduce and draw lessons from the outstanding theoretical achievements and practical experience of western art museum archives, and the professional, system mechanism construction of art museum’s archives management and utilization of the work is still in the primary stage.For this reason, this thesis is based on the literature analysis of western modern art museum archives theory s, case study and comparative study of the cases of management and utilization of archives in western art museums, to do preliminary research and discusses of management and utilization methods of museum archives, in order to provide elementary reference to the professional study of museology in China.
