With the development of the cloud Computing, data center as a carrier of the cloud computing is faced with the expansion problem. To include more servers than ever, the traditional data center needs to deal with several problems such as limited scale of the network, low utilization of the bandwidth, unable to select the most optimal forwarding path and so on. The shortest path bridge as a further extension of the spanning tree protocol is aimed at building a large flat non-blocking network on the data-link level. In this paper, the shortest path bridge is designed and achieved based on the specific core routing and switching equipment which is using in the cloud data center. The main contents are as follows.The needs of the development of the cloud data center are analyzed. The characteristics and defects of the traditional network protocols in the data-link level are also studied. Detailed analysis and expounds about provider backbone protocol are carried on in this paper. Compare to this, the advantages and characteristics of the shortest path bridge is studied and discussed. Base on these studies, the model for the shortest path bridge using in cloud data center is designed and proposed.Several specific part designs of the shortest path bridge is obtained in the next part. The detailed processing flow of each part is achieved following the basic functions of shortest path bridge. The actual network model in data center is designed to verify the usability and reliability of the design.
