With the development of computer science and technology, the new-media technology ha s been increasingly developed, and more types meanwhile. Weibo is a representative media to ol, which implements many features from Twitter. Once Weibo appeared, it has kept growing rapidly in recent years. It does not only change the ways to spread information, but also break the traditional spreading structure and change the media ecology. Meanwhile the traditional m edia has been reduced significantly. This leads the competition between new and traditional m edia more and more intense, especially in the reports of sudden incidents. Due to the high-spe ed, occasionality and unexpected of sudden incidents, usually they cannot be dealed regularly. But the media will never absent from them. The sudden-incident reporting is a way to satisfy the need for information for public; it also affects the national stability. Both new and old med ia have advantages and disadvantages. They report in different ways definitely.In recent years, accent incidents happen quite often in our country.7-23Railway Acciden t is a representative example. This thesis explicit the definitions and characteristics of new and traditional media, explain their development states. Then take7-23Railway Accident for exa mple, by analyzing the timeliness, report, and spreading way and result to list the differences between new and old media. Also summarize the their gains and losses. For new media, like Weibo, the media reporter always stays be side of accidents. Public engagement is a vital part, and the types are quite changeable. It is difficult to make sure the truth of information. Unlike this, traditional media always guarantee the reality of information. They try hard to break thro ugh, but it seems not so obvious. At last, we discuss about the report strategies between new a nd old media when facing the sudden accidents. Hope the thesis could provide some useful inf ormation to promote the development of journalism for news workers.
