With the rapid development of the Internet and IT, our society and economy havebeen undergoing drastic reform and changes. The overwhelming new technology has alsoexerted tremendous influence on the publishing industry. Recently, the Internet-basedinformation reform has become the catchword for many presses. Digital management isput on the top of their agenda. Therefore, the new ERP system, the embodiment of thedigital management, has become the invincible weapon every publishing house, home andabroad, seeks to possess. The ERP system, when carried out effectively, will immenselypromote the communication between the departments of the press, coordinate the workwithin, making it possible for effective data sharing. In other words, the press will benefit alot in terms of management and gain, since the ERP system is capable of supplying timelyand accurate information for decision-makers.Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press (SFLEP for short) is renowned for itsdedication to foreign language education. With its internal reality of growing publicationsand the external pressure of acute competition with peers, SFLEP has spared no effort inexploring Internet-based information reform to speed its development. Undoubtedly, theERP system has become the very solution. So how to make the ERP system operate wellwith the facts of SFLEP is the key to the prosperity of the press.The thesis aims to explore the possible strategies for ERP system to operate within theframework of SFLEP. To achieve this objective, the thesis starts from clarifying what isERP system in details and then analyzes how the ERP system works in other presses. Afterthat, the thesis summarizes what experience we can draw from other presses and attemptsto design a SFLEP proper ERP system. The finding is that the ERP system should centeron finance. To be exact, editing, printing, storing, and marketing, the four main branches ofthe press should all be combined with the finance department to optimize the flow ofcapitals. The thesis is wound up with a prediction of the future of the ERP system inSFLEP according to the trend of digital publishing and digital business.
