Mainstream Media Coverage Of Agriculture-related Research

With China’s reform and opening up, issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers have attracted increasing attention. In recent years, the party and state has introduced a series of policies and measures on agriculture, countryside and farmers, in the guidance of which, many aspects of rural and agriculture have reformed and great changes have taken place in the living condition of farmers. All these changes, which is reflected on the news reporting, prompt news reports concerning the three issues to have the trend of increasing and improving in terms of quantity, subject, angle and depth.In the thesis, China News Awards is taken as a special mainstream media, and the latest five years’ awarded works (17th-21st China News Awards) are used as representative samples. Taking the approach of text analysis, this thesis tries to have a restricted view of the overall picture of today’s agricultural reports by collecting and analyzing these agricultural news works. In this way, we conclude the overall situations that, in the latest five years awarded agricultural news works have become more excellent but the winning-rate is still low. With further analysis on the subject and angle of these works, the thesis points out the advantage of the current agriculture-related news reports and some disadvantages like "generally problem in agricultural reports that the main characters acting as a supporting role","lacking of concept-reform in reports", and then the thesis puts forward some suggestions such as "strengthening mainstream media’s social responsibility","improving grass-roots journalist’s construction","following the era of mining theme","balanced choice of agriculture-related reports’angle". The author hopes that thesis can provide some references for the agricultural reports of our country’s mainstream media.
