From 90s of last century, China gradually stepped into the period of society transformation. The transformation of society means development, and development means reformation and renewal. It is common that there's temporary maladjustment in transformation of any society. In China, the most striking is that many disadvantageous groups emerge suddenly. Peasants, above 80% population of the whole nation, represent the biggest part. With the deepening of reform of system, the disadvantageous groups in the cities and the countryside come forth, which is an inevitable process in society transformation and brings great impacts on society and economy with sense of labor pains. How to face the labor pains and claim the public interest for these disadvantageous groups after pains, which needs us think in depth. The media functioned as claiming the public interest shouldn't neglect the responsibilities on this issue. Can't the mistakes be avoided while the media claiming the public interest? Can marketization and different classifications of receptor be the reasons to make mistakes? The author believes, through the observation on the Banyuetan Journal, that the contradictions can be solved and the mistakes can be avoided thoroughly.Based on the analysis of the samples of reportages about the topic of "issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers" by the Banyuetan Journal from 1995 to 2004, this thesis explores how a mainstream media claims the public interest for the disadvantageous groups mainly represented by peasants during the period of society transformation. Starting from the problems, the thesis firstly analyzes the situation that the mainstream media failed to claim the public interest for the disadvantageous groups, and then gives necessary definitions to some relevant concepts.
