Target tracking has been a popular field of study, the range of applications expand from the military to the civilian. High precision, good real-time is the key factors for the performance of the target tracking system. In order to content the requirements for accuracy and real-time of the target tracking system, the paper designs a tracking system based on the Xilinx’s Virtex-5development board.First, the paper in-depth studys the correlation tracking algorithm, and uses MATLAB software and FPGA to achieve the correlation tracking algorithm.By comparing the processing time to determine the feasibility and advantages of using FPGA.Then the paper designs the overall structure of the tracking system used FPGA as the core, and makes clear the basic tasks and task process of the tracking system processes. The paper tructures the correlation tracking hardware platform after completes of the studying and simulation of the tracking system.In the process of building the platform,the paper designs the system shares the bus control to optimize the system structure, and finally by the simulation experiment, it was confirmed that the system can correctly complete the tracking task.
