Video tracking system is the core of image-guided weapons. Correlation tracking algorithms have been widely used in tracking-systems for their simple and practical characters. The main contents of this subject are the design of video tracking system, the implemention of correlation tracking algorithms and algorithms for stable track in multi-correlation peaks situation.This paper includes the following four aspects:Firstly, based on the digital signal processing chip (DSP) and field programmable logic gate arrays (FPGA), the hardware platform of this tracking system is designed. The device-selection, sub-modules'design and PCB layout are introduced. Also, the software flow of the system is outlined.Secondly, the FPGA design is carried out, including LINKPORT design, the I2C initialization of ADV7179 and ADV7181, the display module design, the overlapping of characters, the design of amplification of image, and NiosII design. The timing diagrams and results are giving out.Thirdly, the correlation tracking algorithms and implementation in DSP are introduced. Template's refresh stategy is discussed. By the introduction of four standard correlation algorithms, improvements of` correlation algorithms are found out: interval-matching to improve matching speed, elimination of interference point to modify the optimal point and surface fitting for orientation.Lastly, how to achieve stable track in multi-correlation peaks situation is discussed. By analyzing the causes and characteristics of multi-correlation peaks, two methods are advanced: the method basing on the projection center of gravity and the method basing on the projection of centroid.In this paper, we complete the system design, the debugging of hardware and software, the implementation and application of algorithms. The design of the hardware platform in this paper has high versatility, which includes a variety of interfaces, facilitates for future expansion.This paper has two innovations: one is the improvement of correlation track algorithm, the other is the proposing of two solutions for stable track in multi-correlation peaks situation, which has important engineering value.
