In recent years, analysis of the American media’s report on China has become a hotspot.Based on the vector theory of ideological and political education, mass media is an effectivecarrier of ideological and political education. From this proposition, this article selects fourimportant events of the New York Times’ report of China during the normalization ofSino-US relations, namely the United States tennis team to visit China, Kissinger secret visit,Nixon’s visit to China and Deng Xiaoping’s visit to the United States to study the politicaltendency of its report on China. Through the study of these events, this paper mainly answersthe following questions: During the normalization of Sino-US relations, the New York Times’political attitude toward China, how the New York Times influences the Americans attitudetoward China, how the New York Times guides public opinion toward China friendly.Firstly, this paper introduces the background and process of the normalization ofSino-US relations. It provides background and historical facts for the analysis of the politicaltendency of the New York Times’ report on China. And then on this basis, the New YorkTimes’ report is analyzed on the United States Tennis Team’s visit to China, Kissinger’s secretvisit to China, Nixon’s visit to China and Deng Xiaoping’s visit to the United States.Finally, the paper applies the theory of media and government relations, media’s politicaltendency and the media function of ideological and political education to analyze the politicaltendency of New York Times’ report on China. And that from the four factors such as theSino-US relations is good or bad, ideological differences, the drive of economic interests andpublic opinion to analyze why the New York times’ report on China hold the politicaltendency. This paper also analyzes the positive influence of the political tendency of the NewYork Times’ report on China. First, it is conducive to create the public opinion of the UnitedStates friendly to China; second, it is conducive to the improvement of Sino-US relations;third, it is conducive to change America’s attitudes to Chinese; fourth, it is conducive to thepromotion of world peace.
