The national image refers to the comprehensive evaluation and impression of a country in the eyes of other countries' people,mainly reflected in the construction of mainstream media in other countries.With the globalization of environmental issues,the national environmental image,which is a branch of the national image,is closely related to the political and economic exchanges between countries.As the hottest global environmental issue,climate change is related to international relations,environmental diplomacy and competition for power and discourse power behind them.As energy conservation and emission reduction have become a global consensus nowadays,different countries' responses to climate change have created different national environmental images in the international mainstream media.On climate change,the United States and China have attracted world's attention the world's attention.As the development of relations change between 2 countries,the Chinese environmental image in the mainstream media in the United States change.Therefore,this paper selected 245 reports from The New York Times which talk about climate change of China from 2007 to 2018.Base on framework theory,it will be analyzed to quantify and qualitatively.Those aims to analyze the rheological characteristics and implicit news framework of the report on climate change by mainstream media in the United States.It can provide suggestions for the building and external communication of Chinese environmental image.The study found that the Chinese environmental image constructed by The New York Times have experienced three stages,which takes "a country with a large carbon emissions","a country that actively seeks environmentally clean energy" and "a climate politics promotion that has received much attention " as phase characteristics respectively.The evolution is centered on the environmental ethics and environmental values of the The New York Times and closely related to the direction of the environmental diplomacy policy of the leaders between China and the United States.With the advancement of Chinese international status and Sino-US relations in recent years,the mainstream media represented by The New York Times is no longer just a stereotype and a “threat theory”.It can let us understand the mainstream media in the United States and its communication strategies.Besides,it can provide a different perspective for interpreting Sino-US relations and even understanding Chinese socity.
