Turning to Frederick Jameson in discussing the characteristics of modern culture after the mark of post-modernism has pointed out that the most obvious is the time to space, and the steering is represented by architectural idea transformation. Seen from this assertion is not difficult, the building is to the human society space, its role is to double aspect:it constructs the living space, on the other hand, to build a cultural space, the building has a production space of natural significance. In addition, the building also has the function of communication--and the mass media dissemination function is different, building on the dimensions of the inward. For the modern city, building play in the construction and dissemination of cultural function is self-evident.Research on building takes the function of communication is always very interested scholars question. For example, Walter Benjamin the great "Paris arcade" plan, is to a building forms as try starting point of social structure and culture. From the domestic and foreign research, current research about the relationship between architecture and culture dissemination showed two distinct characteristics:first, research results and ideas of foreign than domestic more mature; secondly, the researchers mostly architecture, city planning and other related fields of study. From the data we collected, the current research about building communication in China from the three main aspects:one is the analysis of the single building cultural fixed from a single culture or communication or architecture itself professional perspective, the minority architectural or historical traditional architecture as the research object; the two is from the point of view of Tourism professional point of view, study of architectural and landscape as an important object of tourism industry, cultural communication strategy as the method, research and development of economic function and its potential; three is a summary of some city culture, the historical city.This paper is intended to discuss the relationship between Xi’an for example of architecture, culture, city culture and city culture of the future path of development, at the same time, according to the theory of space production, public sphere of Xi’an city building value. As a long history of the ancient capital of thirteen dynasties, Xi’an has a rich heritage, experience in city construction and city planning, the building has its retro style. In the city the process of urbanization and modern elements continued invasion of the background, for the interpretation and research of Xi’an city construction not only can parse out the transformation of architectural function, cultural space, communication mode trajectory, provide useful reference to development but also for related subjects as well as related to the city.This paper is divided into the following sections. The first part is the introduction, mainly discusses the relationship between city construction and city culture, as well as the value of city building communication. Also analyzes and summarizes the current situation of basic research at home and abroad and the research method of this thesis, in order to play the role to concentrate on the main points. The second part is the construction of buildings, based on the history and development of combing historical perspective, to show the close relationship between architecture and culture communication and function transformation. The third part strategy research for city construction and cultural communication, the research of this part is mainly from the time attribute, architectural space attributes, culture and media properties, we studied several attributes of architecture construction significance and functions in the process of its space. The fourth part is a case study, the above analysis combined with the city of Xi’an is analyzed, and further points out the architectural characteristics of Xi’an City, in the cultural dissemination advantages and shortcomings, and at the end of this part gives the author’s suggestions. The fifth part is the conclusion, to make a review on the research process of this paper, and makes the corresponding summary.
