With the further improvement of people’s living standard,we own more and morecars. But the traffic problems of expressway traffic congestion and traffic accidents havebecome increasingly prominent. In order to solve this problem, and fill the blank, weinnovatively designed the freeway traffic controller design. It uses the field equipmentfor traffic data collection, then use the freeway traffic incident detection algorithm toobtain the traffic events. Combination of meteorological information, road conditioninformation, it can identify the road traffic conditions, generate reasonable trafficcontrol and management scheme, and then release the traffic guidance information.Firstly, aiming at the current problems in highway traffic and the actual situation,to carry out research on domestic and foreign intelligent traffic system, Design thearchitecture of expressway traffic controller.Secondly, we design the main hardware system of the highway traffic controller. Ituse the inter Atom processor as control core, combined with Gigabit Ethernet switches,driver module, module, power supply module, the field detection equipments such asvehicle detector to establish the hardware architecture.Thirdly, studies the California algorithm, McMaster algorithm and other maturetraffic incident detection algorithm, by contrast, more suitable detection algorithm isselected as the traffic controller algorithm. The controller application software isdesigned based on the selected detection algorithm. It includes the data receiving andanalysis, event detection, research and design of communication protocol, informationtransmission and distribution. Finally realize the detection and management of freewaytraffic accidents and traffic state.Finally, in the demonstration project of the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan expresswaysection, verify its operation effect. Conclusion shows that the traffic controller canaccurately detect the road traffic state information, quickly find the location of trafficincident, timely warning, clear the traffic events to avoid the two accident, reducecongestion, so it ensure the realization of intelligent traffic’s basic objectives “fast,efficient, comfortable”.
