Because of the lack of IPv4address space and bad security, IPv4will be replaced byIPv6gradually. IPv6has developed very well since it was published in1995. Somedeveloped countries such as America, Japan, South Korea have started commercial IPv6.In the process of IPv4developing to IPv6, there will be IPv4and IPv6coexistence.In thissituation, IPv6node can communicate with IPv4node or IPv6node only by sometransiton technologies. The performance of transition devices will be an importantinfluencing factor of the quality of networks, thus it’s meaningful to research themethodology of performance testing of IPv6transiton technology. The performancetesting result can be important reference for Internet Service Providers to deploynetworks. This thesis focuses on IPv6transition technology’s performance test method. First,we study the implementation mechanism of some main transition technologies such asdual stack, tunnel and NAT-PT; then this article researches the performance testingmethods of throughput, latency, frame lost rate, back-to-back frames after studying thebenchmarking methodology; third, the article improves benchmarking performancemethodology for dual stack devices according to it’s traffic characteristics, consideringthe proportion of IPv4traffic and IPv6traffic as a factor affecting it’s performance. Thispaper also proposes two performance metrics of tunnel creating rate and tunnel capacityand their performance methodology to test the tunnel devices’s tunnel encapsulation anddecapsulation abilities. After translated by NAT-PT device, the packet’s length willchange. We should note that the choice of packet’s length when testing the NAT-PTdevices’s performance. In addition, this article proposes three performance metrics ofconnect building rate, maximum concurrent connects and maximum concurrent users andtheir performance methodology to test the NAT-PT devices’s ability to create and maintain the connections. Finally, the thesis implements a verification programaccording to the methodology of IPv6transition technology proposed above, and verifiesthe correctness and feasibility of the method by testing several simulated transitiondevices with the verification program.
