"New Gansu" Magazine And Of Gansu Social Research In The1920s

The news of the May fourth movement breaking out produced into the Gansu province,which promoted the awakening of the people in Gansu province and the anti-imperialist andanti-feudal patriotic movement. The newspapers and periodicals has played a very importantrole in this process.By reading books and periodicals of that time we recognized Gansu students wasinspirited by the surging of domestic ideology, but the atmosphere of Gansu was stillout-of-the-way. Students wanted to contribute their meager strength for their hometown inculture, education and economy etc, to change the face of the poverty and backwardness.Some Gansu students in Beijing first posited advanced books to people in theirhometown, then they created periodicals and broadcast new cultural ideas in January,1920.May20th, the first truly youth magazine New Gansu in Gansu history was born in PekingUniversity.New Gansu became a new window that students at Peking University deliver advancedculture to west, they reprinted articles from New You, New Education and Construction etc,and they spread new ideas and culture which influenced lots of youth people to study outsidesearching for truth. Meanwhile, magazine opposed feudal ethical code publicly and advocatednew culture and ideas. They also broadcast spirit of May forth movement passionately,broadcast science and democracy, researched social issues in Gansu. This magazine enteredinto Lanzhou through many ways, it promoted Gansu young students’ movement and brokethe depressing situation of Gansu politics.Although New Gansu was forced to shut down afterward, but it played an important rolein broadcasting new culture, enlarge effect of May forth movement and promote historicalprogress that also created certain conditions for setting up early organizations of ChineseCommunist Party in Gansu province.This magazine published many articles of reporting all aspects of society and culture inGansu, eliminated citizen’s misunderstanding to Gansu and the west areas. This magazinealso let citizens understand Gansu positively which preserved valuable information’s of theperiod of the Republic of China for our researching later. This thesis takes some New Gansu of the period of the Republic of China in GansuLibrary as the researching object, mainly discussed founded and stop, Gansu of period of theRepublic of China, New Gan magazine and scholars. I took an entire research on image ofGansu in1920s through a foundational connection with New Gansu.
