The news is a narrative. To deconstruct the news text from a narrative point of view,can find how the structure of news discourse influence the readers’ mind covertly andinvisibly, and can understand how the text of the press achieve the best communicationeffect through the most appropriate narrative strategies. The Wall Street Journal, as aworld-wide mainstream financial daily, its news writing methods, reported mode becomethe object of the financial media to follow.The coverage of the news reports in The Wall Street Journal is very wide, not onlyconcerned about the professional financial information, but also take the economic newswhich is significant and close to the people’s livelihood as its main story direction. Sincethe major earthquake happened in March11,2011in Japan, the newspaper continuouslyreported the occurrence, development and impact of the earthquake disaster, highlights theimportance and the closeness as the news value orientation. In addition, disaster news ofthe sudden and negative also required a unique way in the narrative. Therefore, this papertake the disaster news of the Wall Street Journal as the object of study, sample431disasternews towards Japan from March14,2011to May31, based on the clarification of thehistorical context of the narrative research, use the methods of content analysis, textanalysis, typical case analysis and so on. From the angle of the narrator, narrative time, thenarrative mode, this paper aims to summarize the narrative features of the disaster news ofthe Wall Street Journal and learns more about the narrative style of its disaster news,provides paradigms for domestic media news narrative and research.
