In recent years, university’s capability of research has improved a lot, whichmade more tasks of the national huge scientific projects were carried out byuniversities. The characteristics of huge investment, large scope, long cycle andinvolved a great number of subjects that are haven by the national huge scientificprojects, as well as the numbers of tasks, such as researching and teaching, undertookby scientific researchers in universities, encounters lots of difficulties during suchhuge projects’ developing process, especially the difficulties in researchingmanagement. This paper is based on the SG-Ⅲ (prototypes and host) project(hereafter referred to as SG-Ⅲ project), one of this kind of projects undertaken byHIT. Take the long research cycle and high risks and other facts when developingproject management information system into consideration, in this paper I designedand developed SG-Ⅲ project management information system, based on P6platform,.to satisfy the needs of SG-Ⅲ project team, make a summary for SG-Ⅲ project andprepare for larger series of SG-Ⅲ projects in the future.SG-Ⅲ project was the research object of this paper, and I designed anddeveloped the project management information system, based on P6platform. Firstly,the developments of project management information system both in and out of ourcountry were summarized and the development and application of P6platform wereexpounded; Secondly, on the basis of the theories and methods of project managementand configuration management, established organizational structure and function ofproject team, established SG-Ⅲ project function model, and on this basis, establishedthe system of files and reports; Next, document management system, E-mail system,earned value analysis reporting system, which were three main parts of the projectmanagement information system, were set up; I researched the P6platform and thedata storage model of P6, on this basis, the P6-FZGL software was developed, and theP6-FZGL software mainly implements follow functions to provide a support on P6fora better application in the projects of mechanical and electronic research and thedeveloping of customized project management system: the function of importing datafrom parts of lists, the function of data analysis and computing, the function ofpersonalized designing of the security configuration. Finally, simulations were madeon the designed and developed SG-Ⅲ project management information system to verify its functionality. The verification proved the system to be feasible andapplicative.This kind of method that designs and develops project management informationsystem bases on the P6platform, has the advantages for target strong, cycle short and lowcost. It is especially suitable for the national huge scientific projects such as SG-Ⅲproject.
