Nowadays, traditional manufacturing industries are faced with increasingly more fierce competition. To maintain robust growth, the structural adjustment and the informationization are necessary for them, which would drive the development of the industrialization. During the recent years, ERP/MPR systems are introduced by more and more manufacturing industries in the hope of improving the informationization level and enhancing their competitiveness. However, as the mode of product sales, which previously was production-oriented, is eventually transforming to market-oriented, the life cycle of the products tend to be shortened and the production plan tend to change much faster. In this case, ERP universal systems are unable to manage production process timely and adjust production plan flexibly, that is, they cannot meet the demand from the plastic injection enterprises perfectly.Based on the surveys of some typical plastic injection enterprises in DongGuan, this paper first summarizes the prevalent problems among them. After making a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages between different production management technologies, a MES system-based design would be proposed. Then, given the actual demand of small-scale plastic injection enterprises, a production management system oriented to medium and small scaled plastic injection would be designed and developed.First, this paper has reviewed plastic injection enterprises’business process, and summarized the efficiency problem prevalent among these enterprises. Then, this paper has analyzed the business process of different departments and plot the data flow diagram and transaction flow diagram. After that, following the guideline of lean production (LP) and in consideration of the MES function model, individual function modules are designed, which include the modules of sales management, maintenance management, process management, production schedule, inventory management, basic information management and so on. Moreover, on the basis of SERU and UML, we have designed the Use Case Diagram, Class diagram, Sequence Diagram and so on by transforming the design of functional requirements to software engineering requirements. What’s more, in consideration of the problem of information safety, this paper has designed a uniform permission management module which would separate the business logic from the permission management. This design is expected to solve the problem of information safety by managing the functional permission and data-level permission at some granularity.According to the above researches and JavaEE, this paper has developed a production management system oriented to the medium and small scaled plastic injection enterprises in the hope of intensifying the informationization level of these enterprises and enhance their competitiveness.
