In1990s, our country gave a new policy planning in higher education. With that, the country’s higher education has transformed elite into mass and popularize. University town is a new phenomenon arose with this reform. The enrollment expansion of university has made the original campus which is located in urban center can’t meet the requirements of the students. To ensure that students can enjoy enough educational resources, ministry of education of the country and local governments have made successive policies to planning to build university towns in the edges of the cities and suburb areas.Generally, several universities are gathered in university town. The spatial distances between each university are tiny. This new layout gives a fresh idea to administrators to manage the universities unitively. But at present, lots of advantages and potential of university town have not fully mined. The university town provides college libraries a new environment in the field of information resource sharing. This new environment contributes to the college libraries to take new ideas and actions to construct the information resource so that the superiorities of the university town can be developed. From the whole, the information resource sharing organization constituted by libraries of each university in university town are greater than libraries in separately in aspects of quantity, quality and function.There are three modes in information resource sharing of university town libraries at present:the central library mode which puts one library as the center; the equal mode which libraries have the same rights and obligations; and the last the mixed mode which combine the central mode and the equal mode. All kinds of modes are suitable for different types of university town for its funds, size and other elements.This paper chooses information resource sharing mode as the research object. The research range is limited to university towns in China. The purpose is to give full play to libraries function at information service so that can meet students’ and teachers’ demands. Through the analysis about the information resource sharing modes which have existed, we can understand each mode’s characteristics. And only after problems which have existed are exposed, can we find corresponding measures to solve them. So that different types of university town can choose a suitable mode for their libraries to share their information resources.
