| Information commons(IC) was a newly raising type of service which started in the college library in the United States. It's rapidly developed in the recent decade while it only begins for researching, learning and writing practice for students, with the improvement of information technology, the rescores far more abundance and the multiple requirements was found makes IC. a clients based information collecting and distributing centre where offered a kind of open service. IC represents the new fashion and modern trends of the libraries developing in western country. It initiates an orientation of interactive cooperative, and hopefully reshapes the creative and services pattern.The modern era was started by Info-tech fast risen, traditional library service can not satisfying the new surrounding. Departed understanding of IC was defined excessively simplified and rigescent, it only contents primary document, secondary document but zeroth Literature, limit the space in a single library all that thought caged the library service especially in contents and quality.Now in mainland China, IC was newly appeared, first built in college libraries with the trend of contributing 211 Project. In the whole China, the IC in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology which named"Information Corner"got a comparatively successful in this field, then the School of Visual Arts in Fudan University started the mainland first IC in 2006. After that Jiangwan campus of Fudan University plough into a new IC project. Till now IC was still a new conception, without much mature experience and copying foreign type find out a way out for IC in China is still a problem.Currently, construction an IC is now an individual action for a single library, so that wasteful use of natural resources was unavoidable. Therewith the effect of"single share"in the limited area was not apparent, therefore the definition of"cross-campus"was meaningful and the college library coalition could accelerating intercommunion in research, enhancing the assistance in inter-science crossing and penetration, uprising the library occupating coefficient, digging the social function of library. That is to say,"information commons"could be common while the"cross-campus"comes true even though the funds and resources is not abundance.An individual library, especially in college was multiple-limited in development. It would fit the daily requirement of teaching, study, researching etc, of course completing service quality, upgrade hardware and maintains. All that lacked the things like creative the new service pattern and surely included building an IC. But while we starting from the name of Library consortia, everything changed include intelligence, physical power and funds will reengagement, that makes IC possible.
