With the rapid development of our country’s economy, the pollution and destruction ofwater environment is growing worse and worse, and it has become an important factor inrestricting our country’s economic and social sustainable development. Water qualitymonitoring, as an important means for the management and protection of water environment,is playing an increasingly important role. However, because the traditional means of waterquality monitoring and water treatment technology have a variety of issues and our countryhas a vast territory and numerous lakes, the traditional methods not only cannot meet therequirements of real-time, dynamic and efficient monitoring, but also may bring secondarypollution. Therefore, using new technology in water quality monitoring to achieve real-timeand efficient monitoring of the water environment, has become an important researchdirection of the management and protection of water environment.For the inadequacy of the existing water quality monitoring, this paper presents thedesign and implementation of wireless sensor network platform based on ZigBee whichapplied in water quality monitoring. Wireless sensor network equipped with a variety of waterquality sensors can be combined with GPRS wireless communication to achieve remote,real-time, dynamic monitoring to the monitored water area. ZigBee wireless communicationtechnology has the advantages of low-power, low-cost, big network capacity and high security,and it will have great prospects in development and practical significance in water qualitymonitoring and environmental protection.The main work of this paper is as follows:(1) After the research and analysis of existing water quality monitoring means, choosewireless sensor network technology based on ZigBee as a research direction, to make up forthe inadequacies of the existing monitoring tools.(2) This paper analyzes the wireless sensor network technology based on ZigBee indetail, and describes the characteristics of the ZigBee network equipment components,network topology, protocol stack framework, and describes the main features of the ZigBee network and application prospects.(3) Based on the theoretical study, select temperature, pH value and dissolved oxygenthree water quality sensors, and proposes the specific design of water quality monitoringsystem. In the design, sensor networks can collect water quality information in real time, andsend the information to the backend server through GPRS. At last, in system testing, analysisand test the key technologies of the design, and the overall performance of the systemachieves the expected requirements.
