The adverse consequence of rapid economic development is the problem of environmental pollution, which the more serious of it is water pollution. It is necessary to control the water pollution, which not only affect the environment, but also influenced human health. Water quality monitoring system can do well to supervise water quality condition, but the traditional water quality monitoring system has its deficiency of costly, bad real-time, and difficult to operate. It is the reason that it can’t be widely used. It provides a new approach for water quality monitoring with the rapid development of wireless sensor technology.This paper presents a research method of water quality monitoring system based on wireless sensor network. The system can collect parameter information such as water temperature, PH value and conductivity in the terminal sensor nodes in real time, then transmit the data to the monitoring center server through the network coordinator. Water quality can be supervised and managed effectively in monitoring center. The focus of the study is to use wireless sensor network to realize the function of data acquisition and transmission. In the aspect of hardware design, the ZigBee chip CC2430 of TI company is chose as the core of development.Using the appropriate water quality monitoring sensors for collecting water quality information, meanwhile, specific circuit diagram of the key part is provided. The section of software describes the software system development platform IAR and Z-stack protocol stack. On the basis of this, the program design of ZigBee network coordinator, router and sensor node is carried outAfter hardware and software platform of the system has built successfully, taking a test of serial communication, point to point communication and the networking nodes on system modules, which the result is good. Finally, the overall performance of the system is tested, and the results verify the feasibility of the scheme. The wireless sensor network has the advantages such as tow power consumption, good performance of real-time, easy to operate. In consideration of this, it provides a new way of thinking and a better method for protecting water quality protection when apply it to water quality monitoring.
