Among the security incidents in our country, gas explosion, mine collapse and gas poisoning are too numerous to mention one by one. Especially, the number of gas burst accidents reached124in the past5years which takes up over37%of the total global number. With the deepening of exploitation, the density of noxious gas increases. Such condition severely threatens the security of both production and underground workers. Meanwhile, according to the prediction of experts, the annual total energy consumption will reach3—3.2trillion tons of standard coal by2020which indicates the coal industry is a "potential stock". Thus the mine security monitoring system becomes an important guarantee of the security of mine production and underground staffs. However, the safe production technology of our country relatively fall behind other developed countries. Present monitoring system is painstakingly seeking a perfect joint between cost and information network which results in the low popularity of such monitoring system among most of the small and medium-sized mines.This paper started from the high frequency of mine accidents in our country and the characteristics of our mine industry, this study postulates an underground monitoring and breathing system based on ZigBee and CAN-BUS technique. This system can instantly monitor and record the position and diverse environmental parameters of underground staffs, and these statistics will be sent to host computer through serial ports and presented by LabView. When the detected density exceeds the fore-set one, or any accidents happen, the system will send warning signal to nearby collogues and the monitoring center on the ground to inform monitoring staff, thus to effectively avoid accidents and improve the efficiency of search and rescue. Meanwhile, this system can also identify and locate the worker who is in trouble. In addition, this system has realized the multiplexing of the co-transmition of statistics and voice which can improve the interaction between underground staff and on-the-ground staff. This paper first briefly introduces background knowledge and technology, then illuminates the design of soft and hard ware of this system in detail, and finally completes system testing to testify the feasibility of this program.
