With the rapid development of information technology, demand to be comfortandconvenience for people’s home furnishing life becomes higher and higher. Based onembedded microprocessors, a set of remote monitoring system for intelligent home isdesigned. It can let people look over states of their home furnishing equipments and controlthem remotely when they go out. This makes people can be at ease to travel, and enjoy acomfortable home furnishing life, and fully benefit from high-tech.The system consists of three layers: user layer, service layer and field layer.Communication between the user layer and service layer is performed throughInternet/Intranet network. Through RS-232serial port, I implement communication betweenthe service layer and field layer. With an online PC or other network access terminalequipment, users only fill IP address of the server in address bar in user web browser and theycan view real-time status information of the family and send out appropriate controlcommands to field layer conveniently according to requirement. Based on ARM platform, theservice layer is set up. In the ARM microprocessor, Linux operating system is transplantedand the Web server is embedded. the service layer can transfer the information from functionmodules in field layer to the user layer let remote user look over, and can be used to transmitinformation from remote user to field function modules to perform corresponding actions.This system mainly performs three functions: security alarm, home appliance control, andenvironmental monitoring. Therefore, with STC89C52C as the control core, using theintegrated sensing devices, such as DS18B20, HR202, MQ-2, TA17(L)-04, HC-SR501, etc.,the field layer performs testing of smart home states, such as temperature, humidity, smoke,water level, current and human perception, etc.. With the aids of relays, infrared controlcircuits, interface circuits, etc., it can control appliances in smart home directly.Web interface program and background process in user layer are developed with HTML,JavaScript language, respectively. They implement the interfaces and interactions of user’sremote monitoring and the dynamic update of remote monitoring information, respectively.With Web Boa technology, server functiongs of the server layer is supported in the embeddedoperation system Linux on ARM platform. The server layer acts as the bridge between remoteuser layer and field layer. C language is utilized to develop site application sub-modules toperform corresponding functions respectively.Experiments are carried out on the experimental platform set up in laboratory, and theresults validate that the developed monitoring system can perform its functions. That is, with this monitoring system, users can remote monitor their intelligent home economically andeffectively.
