With the continuous development of computer technology and information technology, the cost of enterprise information technology is going down. Many firms which haven’t worked on information construction begin to seize the opportunity by using IT to develop itself. Among the fierce market competition, the management is becoming more and more important, many successful enterprises benefit from combining management and technology perfectly. Fixed asset management as an important activity in an enterprise,is a key consideration in various enterprise information construction issues. This paper focuses on difficulties existing in fixed asset management processes and provides corresponding solution which can help firms use and manage resources better so that they can develop healthily. This issue derives from the Baoshan tobacco company’s fixed assets management system. The system includes many processes such as asset purchase requisitions, asset allocation, asset maintenance, asset rental. Traditionally, during the development of management information systems, business analysts need to communicate with business experts in the domain and acquire requirements, then inform developers requirements. Developers often implement business logic in hard-coded way. They need to develop the Web interface for each activity in the system and specify the following the background business data processing and storage. When the business processes or organizational structure in the real world change, corresponding system modifications are often time-consuming, laborious and error-prone. After using workflow technology, developers can extract key business logic from the code scattered in the system and leave it to the workflow execution services to handle. Graphical process definition tool describe the business logic vividly and clearly, making the system user understand it accurately and verify the business rules acquired from analysts effectively, which shortens the development period and improves the capacity of responding to changes in business logic. This paper first presents the concept of workflow and shows the comparison and analysis of the market-leading workflow engines. Then based on requirements of fixed assets management system that the system has many approval processes, JBoss jBPM, which is a mainstream open source workflow engine, is chosen as a development component. Further, key business logic is presented by jBPM process definition tools. Finally, a B/S structure based on fixed assets management system is designed and implemented. The system consists of the asset management module, report management module, procurement management module, system dictionary management module, system user management module and log management module.
