The engineering technology for virtual modeling of staring infrared imagingsystem is studied in this paper. By analyzing the working principle of infrared imagingsystem and the physical effects, a new set of virtual digital model system and loopsimulation platform are designed, and the method of engineering is given.Firstly, the working principle of infrared imaging system and the physical effectswhich affect the image quality are analyzed. Secondly, the design of the softwareplatform for virtual model system is done. With the effects model of infrared imagingsystem, the effects in the working process of infrared imaging system are calculated,simulated and implemented, including the dome heating effect, the optical systemspatial response effect, the spatial transfer effect, the nonlinear response effect, thenon-uniformity and noise. Finally, depending on the demand for the output of the virtualmodel system, an FPGA-based data format converting platform is designed, which isfor hardware testing and verification. This system can replace the real staring infraredimaging system to provide data support for simulation, design and performance analysisof imaging systems. It can provide the source of the image data of different formatvideo for the back-end image signal processor, which completes the test of overallsimulation.
