The millimeter-wave is between the microwave and IR in the electromagnetic spectrum. Compared with the two latter, the developing of the millimeter-wave technology is slower. The millimeter-wave has the high penetrability and the moderate spatial resolution, so in some case the millimeter-wave can complete the missions which the microwave and IR can't. However,in the view of utilizing the whole electromagnetic spectrum, making greater efforts to develop the millimeter-wave technology is the trend. From the point of view of work manner, the imaging systems can be classified two kinds: the passive and the active system. The radiometer is the main passive millimeter-wave imaging system, and the active millimeter-wave imaging system is named as imaging radar usually. In recent years , depending on the rapidly development of solid state components and signal processing technology, the demand for the technology of millimeter-wave imaging with high spatial resolution and real-time processing is increasing. We produce the millimeter-wave staring imaging technology which can obtain the real-time information with high resolution.Based on the common theory and principles of millimeter-wave imaging, the millimeter-wave imaging system is introduced. Then the pilot study of the mechanism of passive and active staring millimeter-wave imaging is presented. This paper contains four parts: chapter one is the theory and development of microwave, millimeter-wave and staring imaging technology; chapter two is the analysis of mechanism of passive staring millimeter-wave imaging technology; chapter three is the analysis of mechanism of active staring millimeter-wave imaging technology; chapter four is the conclusion.
