In2010, the41st World Expo was successfully held in shanghai, which was a bigsuccessful international exhinbition for the first time in the history of China. After the2008Olympic Games, Chinese media had great improvement in the quantity andquality of such major international events report in both breadth and depth.This essay studied the narrative construction of the reports about ShanghaiWorld Expo in “People’s Daily” and “China Youth Daily” from1Jan.2010to31Dec.2010by adopting methods such as quantitative analysis, content analysis andcomparative analysis, etc. This essay can be divided into three parts: firstly, combingthe news narratology concept to clarify the news narrative subject, news narrativeperspective and focus, narrative discourse; secondly, compare the narrativeconstruction of the Shanghai Expo reports from the two newspaper in the factdistribution and fact selection of the periodic reports; finally, study the narratolotyorigin of the difference between the two newspapers’ reports, analysing the reasonwhy different states and different voices exist between two newspapers reports aboutthe same event: for the main narrative level, discussion was carried out form theobject difference of positioning and standpoint; for the narrative focus level, the focuswas on the specific Expo reports; for the narrative discourse level, the newspapers’reports about the Shanghai Expo were seen as a whole and single representative reportwas selected as analysis unit to explore the difference inherent tendency implied inthe same event reports between “People’s Daily” and “China Youth Daily”, whichfinally attributed to the ideological differences between the two narrative subjects.
