Narrative Study Of Shanghai World EXPO Report On People’s Daily

During the period of Shanghai World Expo in2010,the World Expo elementspenetrated all aspects of our lives,because of this,China came to"Expo time".Thereason why Expo was able to produce such a huge influence,to a great extent,was dueto the media report. By using news narrative,the media described what World Expois,and what the meaning of World Expo.Among a large number of media reports,themost authoritative and representative one is People’s Daily’s Expo report.With the support of news narratology,using research methods of literaturesearching, content analysis and case analysis,this article discusses how did People’sDaily construct the fact and the ideological of Expo.This article believes that theWorld Expo narrative of People’s Daily bases on the narrative prototype of"communication"and "big power influence",it belongs to "grand event".This articleanalysis the World Expo narrative, It also analyzes how did these stuff influencedaudiences’ knowledge of Expo,and guide people’s behaviour during Expo time.This article is formed with5parts.The first part introduces the purpose of thestudy,related concepts and the present research situation of news narratology,researchmethods,innovative points.The second part discusses the fact construction ofShanghai World Expo by People’s Daily.The author think that,People’s Daily’s Exponarrative was a systematic process.It started at the time when Shanghai bid for WorldExpo2010in2002,and continued to its organization,opening,duration,closing andafter closing.During the whole report process,narrators used narrative devices toconstruct the World Expo for audience,such as perspective,material,strategy.The thirdpart discusses the ideology construction of Shanghai World Expo by People’sDaily.And there were some factors influence it:narrative framework,meaningproduction,narrator and media influence.The first was narrative framework.The rootof People’s Daily’s Expo narrative framework was "grand event" template.ForChinese,the need of "communication" and enhance the "big power influence",werekinds of collective unconscious.Because of this,the "grand event" was produced.The"grand event" template provided narrative material,narrative stage setting,and someother things.The second was meaning production.By using news narrative,People’sDaily conveyed the World Expo knowledge to audience,formed the Expo valuenorms,shaped the public’s World Expo consensus.The third were narrator and mediainfluence.People’s Daily’s party nature and narrators’ world value were also inreports.After news narrative construction of Shanghai World Expo,we come into thefourth part:news acceptance.The audience of People’s Daily were different,because ofit,news acceptance were different,too.News acceptance is not a one-way thing,but aprocess that audience chosen and recognized text by their own.The fifth part,theauthor narrate some merits and some deficiencies of People’s Daily’s Exponarrative,those things bring new inspiration to news narrative.
