The ranging technology based on image is an important research topic of computer vision research areas, and it has been applied in the three-dimensional reconstruction, robotics, and scene understanding science, especially in recent years, it is widely used vehicle anti-collision system. The ranging technology surrounding fixed focus pan image sequences was deeply studied ranging from four aspects. Firstly, inside and outside the parameters of the fixed focus camera were calibrated through the Matlab calibration toolbox. The calibration results was inspected combining with the characteristics of the fixed focus. The inside and outside parameters of camera needed in the fixed-focus images ranging was analyzed, and many pretreatments, such as distortion correction, were adopted to the acquisition of fixed focus image. Secondly, the traditional SIFT matching algorithm was studied and the dimension of the traditional SIFT was reduced, the computational complexity and computation time of the algorithm were also reduced. The SIFT matching algorithm was improved, a small amount of mismatching points were firstly removed using geometric constraints fixed focus image characteristics, and a small part of the ideal points were got, and then the distribution scale of ideal match point and properties of SIFT features were analyzed. The removal algorithm based on SIFT feature attributes mismatching was researched, the most ideal match point were got. The experiments show that, the mismatching points were greatly removed by the improved SIFT matching algorithm. The match accuracy was improved, which has laid the foundation for the next research of fixed focal length the pan sequence of images ranging technology. Once again, the fixed focus pan image sequences ranging technology was studied, and the principle of fixed focal length ranging technology was elaborated. Then several simple ranging experiments were done. The experimental results show that, the fixed focal length ranging technology is not only a simple algorithm but also has simple structure with pitch measured errors. Finally, the fixed focus pan image sequences ranging technology was applicated in automotive anti-collision.a lot of ranging experiment were done, the experimental results show that this ranging method can effectively improve the security of the car driving.
