This article gives an overview of current GPS development status and its operational characteristics, and analyzes normal patrolling business of the Patrol Corps of Jiangsu Public Security Bureau. As long as the patrolling vehicles start off the highway, they keep moving, and the control center can not control and manage them, so if GPS terminals are installed in the vehicles, they can be effectively monitored, managed and dispatched, and the police patrolling on the highway can report emergencies and weather emergencies promptly to the command center. This is a mobile, seamless covered, and flexible technology, which is not restricted to working environment, therefore, the article highlights GPS application in patrolling vehicles.Based on the analysis of GPS network architecture and its working principle, this article gives a design of GPS network based solution according to the specific characteristics of patrolling vehicles, gives a research on relevant protocols of the GPS system, proposes a optimized solution of GPS network and its software, and designs a information transmission format suitable for in-vehicle GPS terminals. This article focuses on the design of system software, that is, GPS intelligent dispatching system, as well as monitoring terminals, which facilitate the operation of dispatching staff. This technology carries out real-time interaction between GPS terminals and the monitoring center, as well as safe and stable wireless communications.Finally, this system runs well in Jiangsu Patrol Corps, which manages the information well, reduces cost and is easy to maintain. In addition, this system improves the efficiency of dispatching staff and plays a crucial role in the modernization of Jiangsu Patrol Corps.
