With continuous advancement of global cities'modernization, more and more attention is paid to the increasing traffic problems. As the key of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS), vehicle navigation system develops rapidly and itself daily. A lot of research has been done in this dissertation to improve the position accuracy, reliability and realize the embedded vehicle navigation system in engineering.Firstly the scheme of high accuracy vehicle navigation system based on GIS and mini navigation-computer for urban apply is discussed, and then the engineering implement, consummating of the system and improvement of the positioning precision and reliability are researched. Furthermore, based on current GPS/DR integrated positioning method, the map-matching techniques based on task-oriented framework is studied, which ensures the accuracy of integration and reduces the work of navigation calculation effectively. Then, another important function module, route programming is discussed in the thesis. Based on the analysis of classical Dijkstra algorithm, a heuristic A* algorithm is discussed. Route programming and vehicle navigation based on this algorithm are development, which give an excellent performance in the practical test.Based on the development of embedded vehicle system, the research and design of monitoring center is also discussed. Besides of map displaying, information management and so on, the thesis makes a deeper research in the module of vehicle monitoring and control.All the theories and algorithms presented in the dissertation are well tested by the prototype named VNS-2B high accuracy vehicle navigation system, in Hong Kong, Nanjing and Shenyang, etc.
