Cloud manufacturing (CMfg) is a concept of service-oriented manufacturing.Through visual encapsulating distributed manufacturing resources and manufacturingcapabilities to build the visual manufacturing resources pool and to realize thecentralized intelligent management, CMfg is able to provide users with convenient,reliable, high-quality, low-cost and on-demand manufacturing service in any stage of aproduct life-cycle. The model of CMfg is a high-quality and low-cost, efficient way forthe domestic manufacturers to conduct their new product development considering thechallenges from global competition and the unpredictable, dynamic global market.However, facing the massive service resource in the resources pool of CMfg serviceplatform, CMfg users are very difficult to find the most suitable service only byhuman’s strength. So, the user experience would be bad and the function of CMfg couldnot be exerted if a precise and automatic service matching way could not be guaranteed.Therefore, how to match the personal CMfg service demand with the most satisfiedCMfg service among diverse manufacturing resource in an automatic and intelligentway is an urgent problem that needed to be solved before realizing the CMfg service.By using the existing research results for reference and revolving around the newproduct development stage in domestic manufacturers, this paper researched thesemantic matching method for the CMfg service of new product development(NPDCMfg service).Firstly, after analyzing the classification and the characteristic of the NPDCMfgservice, an ontology model for the presentation of the NPDCMfg service domainknowledge was put forward, and a semantic description method for the ontology basedon Web Ontology Language (OWL) was researched.Secondly, based on the ontology model and the semantic description method, asemantic matching model for the NPDCMfg service was researched, including:researching on an NPDCMfg service semantic matching framework based on theextended UDDI; proposing a math model for NPDCMfg service matching; researchingon the matching processes.Furthermore, the calculation methods to determine the matching degrees of theontology concept parameter and constraint condition parameter in the matchingattributes of the matching model were proposed. In addition, the matching algorithms were proposed to realize the NPDCMfg service semantic matching.Finally, the proposed method was applied into the product development cloudmanufacturing service platform for automobile&motorcycle parts manufacturers. Acase study involving the product development demand of an automobile&motorcycleparts manufacturer in Chongqing was conducted to validate the proposed method.
