Liquefied natural gas is increasingly reserved by many countries as a kind ofclean and high-qualified energy. At the same time, the design and construction oflarge LNG storage tank which is the main storing container of LNG become more andmore important, too. There is no special software for the large LNG tank design inChina, and designers are required to have highly professional knowledge andcomputer skills to complete the storage tank design work, which increases workloadand affects the design and construction schedule of storage tanks. Therefore, it is veryurgent to develop special software applied in the large LNG tank design. The purpose of this research is to develop a reinforcement design softwaresuitable for large LNG outer tank. The research method is to use Visual Basic6.0todesign outer tank reinforcement design interface; At the same time, seconddevelopment of ANSYS is done by APDL, and ANSYS is called by VB to calculateouter tank to get the stress and deformation results for reinforcement design. Inaddition, the reinforcement calculation and reinforcement diagram view interface arereserved in the interface, which creates favorable conditions for further improving ofthe system. In this system, users only need to input all the known parameters and thesystem can work automatically. Using this system, design work is simplified anddesign time is shortened, and computer skills requirement of designers is reduced, which has far-reaching influence for LNG tank design and construction. In the paper, firstly, the development situation of VB and ANSYS was studied, and the system design method was determined. Secondly, the APDL was studied toedit large LNG outer tank calculation procedure and the reasonable structure designframework and procedure interface were designed, according to the tankreinforcement calculation process. Thirdly, the design methods of key interfaces werediscussed. Finally, an engineering example was chosen to verify the program, and theresults show that the system is running well, greatly reducing the large LNG tankreinforcement design cycle and having certain convenience and practicability.
