High voltage switchgear is a very important link of the entire power system, and itis of vital importance to the safe operating of the system. The safe operating of theswitchgear affects the reliable power utilization of the users directly. The contactor’sover temperature of the high voltage switchgear is an important reason that leads tousing the real-time detection of damage contactor’s temperature is an unnecessarymeasure to guarantee the safe operation.Fiber Optic Sensor(FOS)developed very fastamong all kings of sensors that used to test temperature on line. Now, it could beused to realize pressure, temperature, sound field, electric field, angular speed andaccelerated speed, and also achieve the measuring tasks that still couldn’t beaccomplished with present techniques. It shows unique ability in both Strongelectromagnetic interference and high voltage environment.The paper firstly introduced several methods and their advantages anddisadvantages of traditional test of switchgear’s contact temperature. Based on thisintroduction, it concluded the merits to test with fiber grating temperature sensor andput forward the testing system based on fiber brag grating temperature sensor ofswitchgear’s contact temperature. This system which mainly include, C8051Fmicrocontroller,fiber Bragg grating temperature sensor,RS-485communicationmodule, MGLS-19264LCD and some peripheral circuit, can offer a betteranti-interference performance test method to test the temperature.
