As the important electrical equipment in substation, switchgear shoulders the dual role of closing and disconnecting the power line and protecting the system security, which plays an important role for the substation's safe and reliable operation. However, accidents often occurred due to poor contact, materials aging and other reasons while the temperature of the contact inside switchgear is too high, so monitoring the temperature of the contact is necessary to ensure the safe operation of switchgear. As the switchgear usually take a closed structure, it's hard to realize the temperature monitoring of the switchgear. Therefore, it's urgent to study a new method to realize the on-line temperature monitoring of the contact inside switchgear.The current methods of temperature monitoring of switchgear and the advantages of fiber Bragg gratings temperature monitoring is introduced in this paper. Then based on the fiber Bragg gratings sensing technique, we design a system that could measure the temperature of the contact of switchgear. The design uses fiber Bragg gratings as the sensing elements and realizes the on-line temperature monitoring of the contact inside switchgear with WDM technology.The investigation of the technical scheme's feasibility and the work of basic research, design have taken a long time, on the basis of different temperature monitoring request of high-voltage switchgear and low-voltage switchgear, we design the hardware system, including: the fiber Bragg gratings sensor package, sensor wiring and optical system. We designed two sets of sensor calibration system for two sensors of different packages, and then analyze the calibration results. We introduced the switchgear wiring technology and the composition of the entire optical path, and analyzed the feasibility of the system.The software system of the project contains Lab VIEW data acquisition system and terminal monitoring system software. We mainly discussed the realization of the terminal monitoring system software and real-time temperature monitoring and historical data query functions. The system has been tested for long-term operation, and the results show that the system is stable and reliable with good effects.
