Contextualized questions have attracted great interests since the new curriculum reform.Different from the traditional standard questions, contextualized questions are based onpractical and typical physical phenomena and facts existed in nature, and social productionand life, which reflect physical concepts and laws.Incorporation of contextualized questions into high school physics courses are enablestudents to improve their ability of understanding, reasoning, analyzing and solving problem,as well as creativity. Practice-led teaching can embody the concept of Science, Technology, and Society (STS) in new curriculum standard, develop scientific literacy of students, andthus realize the concept of new curriculum reform. Moreover, the incorporation ofcontextualized questions is beneficial to the professional development of teachers since thepreparation of the questions increases their understanding of the physics concepts, and trainstheir ability to apply the theoretical knowledge to solve practical problems. This work investigated the fundamental methods and procedures of formulatingsituation-based questions, basic approaches of designing the practical situation, as well as therequirements and precautions involved in the practice. During the past12years as a highschool physics teacher followed by5years as a researcher in the field of education, Iinterviewed various high school physics teachers and surveyed high school students of all thethree different grades regarding the use of contextualized questions, and summarized andcompared different types of questions. By combing these practical observations withliteratures, we draw the following conclusions:1.5basic steps involved in preparing the situation-based questions including establishingthe main concepts, determining the physical models, creating the practical situation, describing the specific questions, and answering the questions.2. Method of making contextualized problems based on both revising previous questionsand making new questions.3.5approaches to create physical situations.
