With only about7.15people per square kilometer,Sichuan GanziTibetan area is a vast and sparsely populated area which is located in the southeastmargin of the Qinghai-Tibet plateau made of an important part of Khampa Tibetan areas.Restricted and influenced by variousconditions, there is a big gap of the basic education between this area and other regions,especially the primary music education which is so not coordinated with the fame of“song and dance of the township”. The development of music education lags behind andhinders the inheritance of the ethnic music and dance art. Whether it is the status of thebasic music education in the whole structure, popularization planning, teaching,teaching staffs, curriculum settings, the usage of teaching materials, school-based status,facilities, and concepts or course functions, those aspects should be concerned deeply.After working in Ganzi Tibetan area for at least20years, the author feels a strongresponsibility to develop the basic music education in the current new round of westerndevelopment. With the discovery of the existing problems, dilemmas at the presentsituation, this thesis tries to explore some ideas and methods to tackle with theseproblems.Taking nine representative schools in Ganzi Tibetan area as examples,investigating and discussing the status in quo of the basic music education, this thesisconsists of three parts. The first part presents the reasons of choosing the topic, thesignificance of this research, the aims of this research, the status in quo of this researchin this country and the research methods used in this article. The second part mainlystates the present situation and problems of basic music education in Ganzi Tibetan area.In the last part this article analyses the approaches and methods to improve the basicmusic education in Ganzi Tibetan area and puts forward the countermeasures to solvethe problem.
