This paper is composed in the form of translation practice report which is based on Chapter9and10of Jason Thompson’s A History of Egypt. Through the translation practice of these two chapters, the translator completes this practice report on the basis of practical experience. This translation practice report is divided into five parts. Part Ⅰ introduces the translation project, including background, objectives and significance of the translation project. Part Ⅱ introduces the original work briefly, analyzes the writing style of the original work, and figures out appropriate theories according to the characteristics of the writing style to support the translation. Part Ⅲ explores the theoretical guidance in the process of translation, and analyzes the functional equivalence theory’s principle for theoretical support basis. Part Ⅳ includes specific case studies and explores how to use translation methods and strategies under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. Part V summarizes the lessons learned in the process of translation, and lays the foundation for future research.
