The target readers of fairytales are children, therefore, under the guidance ofschema theory, translators should take advantages of the existing schema and createnew schema in minds is the difficult and important points of this report. The main taskof my paper is to study how to make the translation of foreign fairytales fit theappetite of Chinese children. Besides, reflect and correct the shortcomings andproblems is another important part of this report. Fairytales must have “childishcharacteristics”. Nida’s functional equivalence theory aims that the target languagereaders have the same or approximate response with the native readers, which is theintentions and objectives during the translation process under the guidance of theschema theory. The report was a combination of translation theories and translation practices. The report includes the following four parts: The first part was task description. Itmainly talked about the theory background, task background and task description. Thesecond was process description, including pre-translation work and in-translationwork. The third was case analysis. It explained to details how to deal with the dictions, sentence structures and narrative modes with the help of schema theory to constructthe schema in children’s minds. Besides, by analyzing and comparing the proofededition with the first edition to find out the best ways to solve the existing problems. The fourth part was practice conclusion, in which the author expressed translationfeelings and reflections on how to remedy translation defects and improve thetranslation quality. The creative part of this report lies in the guidance of schema theory and child’spsychology to translate the children’s literature, which sets a good example for thelater translators working for in this field.
