Objective:This study investigated on the situation which was about the demand ofknowledge and skills and job training of nursing staff in pension institutions inTaiyuan City, to provide scientific basis for making targeted training,to support thetheoretical foundation for the next training of staff in nursing home and to provide anobjective basis to carry out the relevant knowledge of nursing for students in nursingcollege.Methods:First, we elected questionnaire items which could evaluate the training needsof nursing staff in pension institutions, based on literature analysis and expertconsultation methods. Second, compiled the questionnaire which was about nursetraining needs of nursing staff in taiyuan pension agency. Finally, selected10pension institutions by the method of cluster sampling, and then used randomsampling method to select134nursing staff who met the conditions as subjects forinvestigation and analysis of cross section.Results:1. The basic situation of objects being investigated:(1) most were female (taked up86.8%);(2) the average age was from46.77and most were from40to49years (takedup58.7%);(3) their years of working were from1to2years (taked up30.6%);(4) most of them were farmers(taked up42.1%) and the majority (taked up62.8%) came from the surrounding counties and cities in the province, andmost werecontract workers (mainly taked up52.9%); (5) most had the below middle school education level (taked up90.9%) andtheir title of a technical post were maily workers (taked up86%);(6) there were only8.3%staff had previous learning and medical and nursingwork experience;(7)52.1%people worked for from50to59hours weekly and their personalincome were generally lower than2000yuan, and only21.5%people satisfact fortheir job, and90.9%staff thought that improving the treatment could increase theirenthusiasm for the work.2. The training status:(1) up to83.5%staff did not hold Nursing Certificate;(2) The pre job training time of72.7%staff were less one week;(3) the main content of pre job training were the basic life nursing and diet(4) nursing; the job training time were less than half a month;(5) most staff generally believed that the training could solve part of theproblems of daily work.3. Training requirements:(1)57.9%of staff were willing to participate in training;(2)50.4%of staff wanted the training should accord to the content;(3)39.7%of nursing staff hoped the training were regular training;(4)49.6%of staff hoped every training were for three days;(5)46.3%of staff hope to form of the seminar and training;(6)44people (taked up36.4%) hoped training shoud be stratified by degree ofculture, and many people wanted training should combine theory and practice.4Through multiple regression analysis, we found the factors which wouldaffect training needs of nursing staff in pension institutions in Taiyuan City were age,educational level and family address. Therefor we established the regressionequation Y=22.42-1.32X1+0.15X3+0.95X4, then could gain “the needs of nursing staff in pension institutions=2.42-1.32*home address+0.15*age+0.95*culturedegree.” in according to the above equation assignment of meaning. The most threeclosely item with nurses training needs were age, education level and family address.Conclusion:1.Nursing staff of pension institutions in Taiyuan city were maily female, andmost of them were low education level and old age, and they mainly were the ruralmigrant workers, laid-off workers and unemployed people.2. The nursing staff in Taiyuan city were in the low rate with NursingCertificate, and had less training time before job. And the training content weremainly the basic life nursing and diet nursing, meanwhile the training content wereobsolete and knowledge was not wide enough.3. The most respondents were willing to participate in the pre job training, andhoped that training was made by the content. But it was difficult for them to havemore time to participate in training. And the most looking forward mode of trainingwas the combination of theory and practice operation.4. The home address, age and level of education were the most importantinfluence factors for the demand of nursing staff in pension institutions.Suggestions:According to the survey results, nurses training should be strengthened and theoverall quality of nursing staff need to be upgraded. Therefor we suggest to absorbthe professional nursing staff and strive to improve the rate of holding NursingCertificate. And the training should be based on the combination of theory andpractice operation, and the location should be as close as possible to the nearesttraining. Meanwhile, the training content should contain not only the basic care butalso more professional nursing knowledge.
