Objective:To make known whether electroacupuncture plus traction is more effective than electroacupuncture for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation. Methods:using random and control test, there were219patients with sciatica met a criterion, according to1:1rate; patients were divided into the elcctroacppuncture (109cases) group and the electroacupuncture and traction (110cases) group via random method. On the principle of meridian differentiation and eight-principle zang-fu organ differentiation, mainly choosing A-shi point, lumbar region jiaji point, large intestine shu, huantiao point. After the manipulation the needle, patients had sensation, respectively used electroacupuncture between the main and assistant points. The procedure:Open the electricity supply, choosed the dilatational wave, frequency was2Hz/100Hz, electric current rate in0.1-1.0mA, depended on the patients" constitution, every30min one time. Patients using traction took supine position and fixed through binding band. Traction weight were suitable to30%-80%of their own weight, gradually increasing to100%, couldn’t surpass their weight, every time last20-30min. the course of treatment of electroacupunction and traction time:the first and second weeks,5th a week; the third and fourth week,3rd a week; the fifth and sixth weeks,2nd a week. We took VAS, questionnaire, patient self evaluation scale to make a conclusion.Results:Results:1.Two groups baseline analysis:demographic characteristics (age, job, height and so on); clinical characteristics (course of disease, differentiation situation, and so on); basic state of ill, those all before dividing groups compared without statistical significance (P>0.05), was suitable to analyze. 2.after treatment of these two groups, score of skelalgia VAS, questionnaire, Likert scale was lower than before treatment, comparison got statistical significance in group (P <0.01). however, comparison had no significance between each group (P>0.05).3.Untoward effect rate happened very low, was1.3%, only had3cases in electroacupuncture group, they had the same symptom:their points were bleeding after withdrawing the needle, which showed both therapies were safe. Conclusion:Both electroacupuncture plus traction and acupuncture are effective for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation in reliefing pain, improving motor function and overall evaluation. There is no significant difference in efficacy between electroacupuncture plus traction and acupuncture, although both of them are Safe and aviable therapy for sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation.
