Objective:Through the comparison of the clinical efficacy of the electroacupuncture. the electroacupuncture plus traction and the electroacupuncture combined with traction and western medicine for treating sciatica patients caused by lumbar disc herniation. then screening the exact efficacy, simple and excellent treatment program of acupuncture and moxibustion.Methods:198sciatica patients caused by lumbar disc herniation were recruited and randomly assigned to an electroacupuncture group (66cases). an electroacupuncture plus traction group (67cases) and an electroacupuncture combined with traction and western medicine group (65cases). Each group have5times per week for treatment in first and second weeks:3times per week for treatment in third and fourth weeks:2times per week for treatment in fifth and sixth weeks:and twelfth weeks for follow-up. Before and after treatment and follow-up period by using the Short-Form McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ) and Sciatica Frequency and Bothersomeness Index (SFBI) to evaluate the curative effect.Results:(1) After treatment. VAS. PRI. PPI, SFI and SBI of three groups showed the significant difference compared with before treatment (P<0.01).(2) VAS. PPI. SFI and SBI changed value (score difference between in1.2,3.4,5,6weeks and0week) of3groups were not statistically significant, compared with every group (P>0.05). In sixth weeks. PRI changed value (score difference between in sixth weeks and0week) of electroacupuncture combined with traction group was greater than electroacupuncture group and electroacupuncture combined with traction and medicine group (P<0.05).(3) In follow-up of twelfth weeks. VAS. PPI. SFI and SBI changed value (score difference between in twelfth weeks and0week) of3groups was not statistically significant, compared between every group (P>0.05). PRI changed value (score difference between in twelfth weeks and0week) of electroacupuncture combined with traction group was greater than electroacupuncture group and electroacupuncture combined with traction and medicine group (P<0.05).(4)2cases were hemorrhage after taking needles in electroacupuncture group. The incidence rate of adverse event was1%.The three groups of adverse event rate were not significant compared with each other (P>0.05).Conclusion:For relieving pain.reducing the frequency and alleviating the discomfort symptom of sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation. electroacupuncture. electroacupuncture combined with traction and electroacupuncture combined with traction and western medicine are safe and effective therapy. The curative effect of three groups are equivalent.
